Give Yourself a Break

We’re exposed to and affected by the actions, emotions and energies of others daily. For us, that energy, and especially the actions of others, have become increasingly violent. 
We carry that negativity with us, whether we realize it or not. It weighs on our minds and hearts. That negativity sits so heavy on our shoulders that it pulls us down, hunching us over.
So give yourself a break— even 1 or 2 minutes a few times a day. During my small check-in breaks, I practice this small exercise I adapted from yoga practice: Sit up, straighten your back, pull your shoulders back and chest out. Elongate your neck and pull your head straight up and away from your shoulders. Close your eyes and begin taking deep breaths. Breathe in and out through your nose. With each exhale, begin to relax your body. Start with your feet and go up to your head. Relax your forehead, all the tiny muscles around your eyes, and unclench your jaw. Listen and feel your breath and heartbeat. Enjoy being still for just a few seconds. Do this a few times a day. Ask yourself if you’re ok. It literally takes seconds and you’re worth it. I take small 2-5 minute breaks multiple times a day to make sure my body isn’t physically holding stress and negativity that isn’t mine.
We face tension, fear, oppression, micro-aggressions, and hatred every single day. We need to unburden ourselves of that. And it starts by stopping and taking a few moments to give yourself the attention you give to others. Please feel free to share this.
