My therapist taught me to interrupt negative thoughts as soon as they start so my anxiety doesn’t send me spiraling. They taught me to ask myself, “Right this moment, is what I’m thinking true? How do I know it’s true? Am I assuming? Are my thoughts just thoughts? Or are they reality?” Taking a moment to pause and answer those questions helps bring you back to the present. It makes it easier to identify anxiety vs. reality so you can move away from those negative thoughts.
